What does a Family and Community Specialist do?

A Family and Community Specialist works to enhance the school district’s ability to meet student and family needs. The Family and Community Specialist is the link between the home, school, and community in providing direct and indirect services to students and families. 

SERVICES/PROGRAMS PROVIDED:

• Advocacy for students, parents and the school.

• Behavioral health counseling.

• Back-to-School assistance with supplies and community resources.

• Coordination of school and community services to meet the needs of students/families.

• Crisis Prevention and Intervention.

• Family Resource Center provides clothing, shoes, toiletries, household items, and other household goods as donated and available.

• Holiday Assistance Program.

• Parent Engagement and Education.

• Provide training and workshops to teachers, school staff, and parents.

• Support groups for students and parents.

• Foster Care Liaison services.

• Migrant Liaison services.

• Homeless student and family services.

• Military family liaison.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:

• Students and families of Floresville Independent School District.

FEES:

• No fees

• Will accept Donations for the FISD Family & Community Services Fund

WAITING TIME BEFORE SERVICES RECEIVED:

• Referrals are handled as they are received and/or prioritized according to need.
