Media Guidelines
It is the policy of the Floresville Independent School District to work cooperatively with the news media for coverage of issues and events involving the school district, its students, or staff. However, FISD is dedicated to providing all students with a safe learning environment without unnecessary interruptions. Therefore, the following guidelines are in effect at all FISD campuses and facilities:
All media inquiries should be directed to the FISD Communications Office. The Communications Specialist will work with District Administration to determine the district’s response to each media request.
Exception: routine athletic or extracurricular activity coverageMembers of the media are prohibited from entering district buildings and facilities without prior authorization from the Communications Specialist. The district will coordinate all interviews on campuses to ensure minimal distraction for the staff and students. Spontaneous and otherwise unscheduled interviews with students, staff, and parents on district property are not authorized. These guidelines and procedures extend to school buses and other forms of district transportation.
Members of the media may be allowed on campus to interview staff and/or students during the school day only with prior approval from the Communications Office. As a general rule, interviews are granted only when coverage is in the best interest of Floresville ISD, its students, and staff.
Members of the media are required to check-in at the school office prior to beginning an authorized interview on campus. If members of the media visit a school campus without prior approval, they may wait in the campus office until a district administrator can be notified. Once notified, access will be at the discretion of the district administrator.
Parental permission for group photos is not required but should be obtained if time and circumstances permit.
When a media request focuses primarily on an individual student, FISD will attempt to notify parents before granting permission for the student to be interviewed.
Members of the media must obtain permission/credentials for access to Floresville ISD events, i.e., athletic competitions, fine arts performances, graduation, prom. Permission and/or credentials for events and performances may be obtained through the Communications Office, Athletic Department or campus principal.
Members of the media will not be allowed to interact with students, staff or officials prior to, during or after events until permission has been granted by the Communications Office, Athletic Department or District Administration.
When visiting district facilities or attending school events, members of the media are expected to wear attire that is appropriate for the school environment. Anything deemed inappropriate or a distraction may be addressed.
Floresville ISD strictly enforces and follows student privacy preferences and release of student information as outlined in FERPA guidelines (Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act).
The Superintendent or Superintendent’s designee shall be the official spokesperson for Floresville ISD.
