Mrs. Gabriella Alvarez, Floresville High School Teacher, and students Shanette Baxley and Aidan Alcoser (not pictured) received the Community of Character Award during the Board of Trustees May meeting. Mrs. Alvarez and the two students were recognized for the actions they took on April 19 to render aid to a student who was having an episode of seizures during 2nd Period.
"Once she hit the ground, I ran to her and got her into the appropriate position. I asked Aidan Alcoser and Shanette Baxley to go get assistance from the nurse and administration... Aidan and Shanette did an amazing job. They were extremely quick to react and assist," said Mrs. Alvarez.
Mrs. Jennifer Pelech, FHS Assistant Principal, presented the award and said, "these two students and Mrs. Alvarez did amazing with [the student]. The students helped and attended to [her]. When we arrived both students gave us detailed information about what happened. One of the students was on the phone with 911 and handed the phone to our nurse. When EMS arrived they even told them what happened when questioned."
Mrs. Alvarez, Shanette, and Aidan are a perfect example of Floresville ISD’s core belief that helping one another strengthens our community. Thank you for your acts of service and compassion.
