Floresville ISD announced the Teacher and Students of the Month for November.
Mario Garcia, teacher at Floresville Middle School, was named Teacher of the Month. Mr. Garcia is currently in his fourth year as a 6th Grade English Language Arts teacher. He came to us from Kenedy ISD, where he had been teaching for three years. He is part of a teaching dynasty at FMS. His mother, Sara Garcia, is the Instructional Facilitator for ELA on our campus and his sister, Miranda Garcia, teaches Career and College Exploration and coaches girls’ sports. Mr. Garcia has a degree in Mass Communications from Texas State University. After college, he started substituting and fell in love with teaching. His students say they love Mr. Garcia because he understands what they need help with and he goes out of his way to help them. Mr. Garcia is an aspiring writer of young adult fiction and says that his goal is that his students learn to appreciate what stories have to offer them. He wants people to know about him is that he is always working to grow himself and to help his students grow and, most importantly, he will never give up on anybody.
Chance Fletcher, an 8th-grade student at FMS, is one of two Students of the Month. He is an exceptional student who consistently places on the A/B Honor Roll and this year, he is maintaining a straight A average in all of his classes, while taking Honors U.S. History, Honors English Language Arts, Honors Science, and Algebra I. His favorite subject is Math. He says it just seems to be at a higher level and he likes being able to apply want he learns. In addition to his core classes, Chance is extremely active in athletics and in band, where he plays both trombone and percussion. He is proven leader on our campus, presenting the morning announcements over the PA each day and acting as a senior member of our Flag Corps. Chance is looking forward to multidisciplinary studies at the high school because he wants to explore the clusters. He plans to pursue a college scholarship in academics or 4H as a backup plan, but his primary goal is to attend the U.S. Air Force Academy to pursue a degree in either Music Theory or Aeronautics and became an Air Force pilot. After the Air Force, Chance would like to be a band director for a school.
Destiny Vallejo, an 8th-grade student at FMS, is the second Student of the Month. She has been a Floresville student since kindergarten and she attended both Floresville North and South Elementary schools. Destiny takes her schoolwork very seriously. She is an A/B student this year. Her favorite classes are Art and Reading; Art because it allows her to express her emotions and creativity on paper and Reading because she loves how an author can take her to a different world. In addition to being an exceptional student, Destiny demonstrates exceptional character. She is quick to smile and is eager to befriend people. Her maturity and character were the primary factors in her selection to be an Office Aide in our front office this year. Destiny says she has been looking forward to participating in the Culinary Arts program since 5th grade. Her goals are to attend community college and obtain a scholarship to a culinary university in Austin to pursue her desired career as a baker. Destiny says the most important thing people need to know about her is that she won’t judge people and she is honored to receive this recognition.
