students and teacher of the month

Floresville ISD announced the Teachers and Students of the Month for March.

Ms. Layla Smith, teacher at Floresville Middle School, has been named Teacher of the Month. Ms. Smith has been a teacher at FMS for eight years. She has two children, one of whom is currently a student at FMS and the other graduated last year. She lists her hobbies as walking, gardening, re-decorating, and organizing. She began her career at FMS as a science teacher. Two years ago, she made it known she wanted to become the teacher for our Life Skills class. When asked why she pursued this assignment so passionately, she said she had prayed about it a lot and wanted to challenge herself. Since she stepped into this role, she has transformed the Life Skills classroom into a center for learning and achievement. She says she loves to see all her students’ little victories. Ms. Smith engages her students, instills an excitement for learning, and focuses everything she does in her students. This is obvious in the effort and care she and her team exert for every student in her class. Her outgoing personality and quick smile help promote the morale and camaraderie of our entire team.

Camille Cain, an eight-grade student at Floresville Middle School, is one of two Students of the Month. Camille is a lifelong student of Floresville ISD who enjoys music, bouncing on the trampoline, and hanging out with her nieces and nephews. At FMS, Camille has maintained almost straight A averages. Her favorite class is U.S. History. She is an FMS cheerleader and plays the flute in the Concert Band. Camille is looking forward to High School, where she plans to participate in cheerleading, band, and floral design. She is considering becoming a pediatrician in the future. She believes in working hard and pushing through it.

Kyler Van Benthem, also an eight-grader at FMS, is the second Student of the Month. He, too, is a lifelong FISD student, having also attended FNE. When he is not at school, he enjoys online gaming, especially a game called Stormworks, a game that allows you to build and use vehicles. At FMS, Kyler is enrolled in multiple honors classes and maintains an almost perfect high A average. His favorite subject is History. He plays football and is an active member of the FMS Flag Corps. Kyler’s plans for High School might include Welding and football. He is also looking forward to Theatre classes and hopes to participate in One-Act Play. After high school, Kyler plans to join the U.S. Navy and then pursue his goal of becoming an engineer.
