Mrs. Denise Gibson is one of two teachers being recognized in February as the Teachers of the Month.
She is a UTSA graduate and currently serves as a Life Skills teacher at the Floresville Early Childhood Center (FECC). Her career includes working as a Life Skills substitute, a para-educator, and a classroom teacher for a total of 24 years. Mrs. Gibson has been a PPCD/ECSE teacher for 17 years, and has spent all of her career - except for one year - in Floresville ISD.
Mrs. Diana Wagner, FECC principal, said:
"The reason for the nomination includes her commitment to our students. It is very difficult to be a teacher in general. Mrs. Gibson not only teaches children who have never been in a classroom setting, but she teaches children with a variety of disabilities and learning specific needs. She does it with grace, patience and kindness. She is usually the first one here, the parents know her, trust her, and she truly never misses a beat. Her class demands a lot! I walk by her room and I can hear some students who demand a lot of attention. She doesn’t raise her voice, doesn’t seem flustered, and never asks for help. She maintains calmness and continues on with her routine, expecting the same of her students. She has great assistants in that room and runs a tight ship!
I am proud of her and I commend her for the really tough job she has. Mrs. Gibson is deserving of this award as she makes no excuses. She’s committed, present, and most importantly, she is always calm and kind. I’m happy to work with her, learn from her and share my experiences with her."
