The Floresville ISD Board of Trustees unanimously approved Ilyan Martinez as the district’s Athletic Director at the February 5 regular meeting.
Martinez is a proud Floresville ISD graduate who returns to Floresville with a total of 16 years of experience in athletics. He comes to FISD from Natalia ISD, where he served as the Athletic Director and Head Football Coach for six years. Prior to this experience, he was appointed to serve as the Defensive Coordinator and Head Powerlifting Coach at Natalia ISD for six years. Coach Martinez started his career in public education as an Assistant Coach at Plainview ISD.
“I am honored and excited to serve the Floresville Community as the next Athletic Director of Floresville ISD. As a Floresville Alum, I understand the value and importance our program will have on the lives of our students. I wouldn’t be where I am today without the teachers and coaches of Floresville ISD. I am grateful for the opportunity Dr. Gilstrap and stakeholders have afforded me,” said Coach Martinez.
“Coach Martinez’s years of experience and commitment position him to take our athletic program to the next level,” said Superintendent Dr. Jason Gilstrap. “He has a deep understanding of our values and our mission to prepare young individuals for personal and professional success by emphasizing integrity, dedication, character, pride, and academic excellence. We look forward to his leadership in Floresville ISD.”
After graduating from Floresville High School in 2003, Coach Martinez earned a bachelor’s degree in Exercise Sports Studies from McMurry University in 2009.
He and his wife, Deborah, are the proud parents of daughter Isabella.
Coach Martinez’s start date will be Friday, February 16. He will coordinate with district administrators and coaches to ensure a smooth transition in leadership.
