Teacher holding certificate in front of board members

Mrs. Courtney Lemley has been with Floresville ISD for 10 years. She started in 2014 teaching 7th and 8th-grade history and then transitioned to Floresville South Elementary, where she has taught grades 3, 4 and 5.

Mrs. Lemley was first hired at Floresville Middle School as a Social Studies teacher and coach, which led her to received CPR and first aid training that would come in handy nearly 10 years later.

One day before Christmas break, FSE students had just come back from lunch and a student was still eating a part of her lunch. The teacher and paraprofessional in the room both had a small group of students they were working with.  All of a sudden, one of the students starts making hand gestures and Mrs. Lemley ran up to her. She told the student, “Say something! Say something!” However, the little girl couldn't say anything.  Mrs. Lemley told the student told the student that she was going to give her a hug and help her, and then wrapped her arms around the child.  She did three thrust and out popped a piece of food.

Mrs. Lemley said, “I just reacted. I didn't even think about it. It's flight or fight, and in the moment, fought.” She was pretty shaken up afterwards, and the student was crying and very thankful to her for helping her.

Teachers save lives and do so much more for students. Floresville ISD is honored to have individuals like Mrs. Lemley working at our schools and taking care of our students in every way possible. We thank her for her attention to detail, quick actions, and continued service.
